Northgard takes some of the parts of Cultures that I liked (building up a town, and a focus on economy, and the atmosphere), with some of the more complex ideas taken out, and some regular strategy game elements added in (but not so much that it's like any other strategy game).
Here is my perspective on Northgard, if it helps. Too much micromanagement - pairing up couples and leveling up individual characters' skills gets old after a while.I loved Cultures when it came out (and have not played 8th Wonder of the World or any related games besides Northgard), but in my opinion it suffered from a few problems: Northgard is an amazing game however, and i definetly recommend that you get it. Almost each event is counterable, but you may not be able to focus them at all times.Īll in all, as an old Cultures player, i found the games to be somewhat similar, but not really that similar. Blizzard, for example, burns through your already scarce food and wood during winter while rats eat out your food and make your people sick, reducing their production. There are also events, both during the summer and winter, forcing you to adapt to them. (let me tell you though, almost everyone will attack you by hoarding gold and turning every villager they have into soldiers). You can with accumulated Fame, Lore, Trade or by killing your enemies. The existance of different clans is also significant, giving you a wide variety of approaching how you want to win the game. Lore is a unique mechanic, giving you some important bonuses. Happiness is important for your people to produce more goods and also spawn new villagers. There is a constant cycle of 9 months "summer" and 3 months of winter, and the winter hits hard, forcing you to stockpile wood and food to outlast it. The jobs, including soldiers are interchangable. Where you can build is limited each tile you "colonize" are limited to 3-2 (you can add 1 more if you pay gold kröwns). You bascially have a few types of food gatherers, lumberjacks, loremasters and a group of money makers. Merchandise.įirst of all, the more "complex" jobs do not exist in Northgard.
